After BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh and his supporters were denied entry into Udaipur City Palace, his cousin, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, on Tuesday warned the BJP leader against the misuse of political influence.
“People in political positions should not misuse their position and power within the government to enter our home. People cannot force themselves into our home,” Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar said, warning his cousin Vishvaraj Singh.
On November 25, three policemen were injured after stones were thrown at the Udaipur City Palace main gate after BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh was not allowed to enter the palace where he was scheduled to go to have ‘darshan’ of the ‘dhuni’ (a religious place) and then visit the Eklingnathji Temple following his coronation.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Lakshyaraj further accused the Udaipur administration of helping BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh when he and his followers tried to storm the Udaipur City Palace.
“Whatever we saw yesterday, and the police allowed a few condemnable things. It reminds me of the 1984 situation in Delhi… Some people are ignoring the law for their personal benefits,” Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar said.
“Some people in the government, for their personal interest, were pressurising the administration and trying to forcefully enter our house. The country and Rajasthan are run by the Constitution. Nobody is above the Constitution… Eklingji Mandir (temple) is open to all. The temple is not for a show of strength. It’s open for all…,” said Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar.
Later in a post on X, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar hoped that the Rajasthan government and Udaipur administration “will stand with truth and serve justice”.
“What happened was unfortunate. We hope that the administration and the government will stand with truth and serve justice… We can always approach the court. It is not right to take the law into your own hands and consider yourself above the law… We faced a similar situation 40 years ago… We will reply in terms of law to their illegal approach… Their claims are false and the temple inside the city palace is open for all, given that they arrive responsibly…,” he said in a post on X.
A property dispute is at the core of the conflict between the families of BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh and his cousin Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar.
Udaipur City Palace and Eklingnathji Temple are under the control of Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar’s father, Arvind Singh, who is also the chairman and managing trustee of Shree Eklingji Trust in Udaipur.
The latest flareup started when Vishvaraj Singh and his supporters were denied entry at the Udaipur City Palace and Eklingnathji Temple.
